Why This Race is Important
1. Overdevelopment & High-Density Projects
• Without Together for Summit’s leadership, Summit could see large-scale, high-density projects (like what was once proposed at Broad Street West) move forward.
• Opponents have signaled support for dense, tax-negative projects, including all-affordable developments on critical city-owned sites such as the old firehouse property.
2. Protecting Summit’s Character & Neighborhoods
• Overdevelopment risks changing the small-town charm, scale, and livability of Summit’s neighborhoods.
• Traffic congestion, school overcrowding, and strain on infrastructure could follow if density is unchecked.
3. Fiscal Responsibility
• Together for Summit has prioritized tax-positive development and safeguarding taxpayer dollars. Opposing policies could saddle residents with higher taxes while producing little community benefit.
4. Community Investments
• Projects like Tatlock Field lights, parks, and recreation upgrades may lose momentum or be deprioritized.
• Focus could shift away from investing in family-friendly amenities toward more aggressive development agendas.
5. Bipartisan Progress & Collaboration
• The team has built a coalition of Republicans, Democrats, and Independents working for Summit first. A shift in leadership could mean more partisanship and less community-driven decision-making.
6. Public Safety & Quality of Life
• Hiring more police, investing in deterrent measures, and keeping Summit safe could fall off the priority list if new leadership reallocates focus and funds.
