As his campaign came to a close, Councilman Kevin D. Smallwood took a moment to thank Summit residents for their trust, engagement, and partnership over the past two years. Serving as Councilman At-Large has been, in his words, an “incredible honor,” giving him the chance to listen to residents, find solutions, and strengthen the community he loves.
At a time when national politics feels more divided than ever, Summit continues to stand out as a city where collaboration and respect still matter. Kevin shared a personal reflection to illustrate that truth—his ex-wife is a Democrat, and he’s a Republican. Yet when it comes to their children and their hometown, they vote together because Summit comes first. That shared love for community, he says, is what defines Summit.
This same spirit fuels the Together for Summit team. It’s not about party labels—it’s about people. Their focus remains clear: keeping Summit safe, vibrant, and welcoming; investing in recreation and youth sports—including long-awaited improvements like the Tatlock Field lights—and ensuring transparent, responsible government that serves every resident.
Kevin’s leadership has been grounded in listening, respect, and action—values that unite neighbors across political lines. He reminds residents that real progress happens when Summit works together, whether improving infrastructure, supporting sustainability, or investing in community programs.
In closing, Kevin thanked everyone who serves the city in any capacity and reaffirmed his belief that Summit is strongest when it stands together—neighbors, parents, and friends—all working for the same goal: a better future for our community.
Together for Summit. Together for progress. Together for each other.
