Summit Is Safer Today Than It Was Yesterday
Public safety is the cornerstone of a thriving community, and under the leadership of the Together for Summit team, that commitment has translated into measurable results.
In 2024, the city hired two additional police officers, with funding approved for two more in 2025—strengthening Summit’s already exceptional police force. The team also passed the Resident Protection Ordinance (RPO) and partnered with local organizations to achieve Functional Zero homelessness, ensuring that every Summit resident has access to housing and critical support services.
The results speak for themselves: burglaries, car thefts, and break-ins are down significantly. This success comes from combining innovative tools—such as drones, license plate readers, and advanced surveillance technology—with a strong, visible police presence. As the team emphasizes, technology is powerful, but it’s no substitute for dedicated officers protecting our neighborhoods.
While some suggest that hiring more officers isn’t the answer, the Together for Summit team knows that public safety depends on people, not politics. Providing the right resources, staffing, and training ensures that Summit families can feel safe and secure every day.
Together, we’re proving that when you invest in people and innovation, you create a safer, stronger Summit for everyone.
