The Summit Republican City Committee has officially announced its candidates for the 2025 Common Council election, aiming to build on their recent electoral successes and address key community concerns.

Meet the Candidates

The Summit Republican Committee has officially announced its candidates for the 2025 Common Council—and this year’s team is a powerful blend of trusted experience and new energy, ready to keep Summit moving forward.

Councilman Kevin Smallwood (At-Large) and Councilwoman Delia Hamlet (Ward 1) are stepping up once again to serve the community they love. They’re joined by Tom Szieber, a longtime Summit resident and attorney, who is stepping into the race for Ward 2.

This team isn’t about playing politics—they’re about solving problems. From protecting public safety to keeping our community affordable and ensuring smart, resident-focused development, each of them brings a clear and consistent vision for Summit’s future.

“We’re focused on the people of Summit—not on outside interests or partisan agendas,” said Committee Chairman Nick Curiale. “Kevin, Delia, and Tom are ready to build on the momentum from last year’s sweep and deliver results that matter.”

Kevin Smallwood is running on a platform of fiscal responsibility, public safety, and local business support.

“I’m proud of what we’ve accomplished, but there’s more to do,” Smallwood said. “We need to keep taxes in check, strengthen our safety services, and make sure downtown remains a thriving hub for local families and businesses—not developers.”

Delia Hamlet is laser-focused on thoughtful growth and keeping Summit’s small-town charm.

“Summit’s future depends on responsible planning,” Hamlet said. “I’m committed to policies that protect affordability and safety while making sure our town evolves in a way that works for everyone.”

Tom Szieber, the newcomer to the slate, is bringing a fresh yet grounded perspective.

“Summit is at a turning point,” Szieber said. “I’m running to protect what makes our neighborhoods special while ensuring development doesn’t outpace our infrastructure. I’ll always put residents first.”

Together, this team is energized, experienced, and ready to roll up their sleeves for Summit.
