Why I’m Running for Summit Council

Every campaign begins with a “why.” For Tom Szieber, that “why” comes from a deep love for Summit and a belief that local government should always put residents first.

He and his wife chose Summit as the place to build their future—a community where they could raise a family, enjoy our parks, support local businesses, and be part of something special. That personal connection is what first led him to get involved—showing up at Council meetings, listening to neighbors, and advocating for responsible, transparent leadership.

When the Broad Street West project moved forward against widespread community opposition, he joined countless residents in speaking out. That experience made it clear: Summit needs leaders who listen, lead with integrity, and put people—not developers—at the center of every decision.

The success of Councilwoman Delia Hamlet’s “Summit First” campaign and the ongoing leadership of the Together for Summit team—Elizabeth Fagan, Bob Pawlowski, Jamel Boyer, and Kevin Smallwood—proved what’s possible when government truly serves its residents.

Now, [Candidate’s Name] is stepping up to continue that progress, driven by three reasons:

  • Inspired by the leadership that’s restored trust and accountability in Summit.

  • Concerned about protecting that progress as Summit plans for its future.

  • Hopeful because of the pride, purpose, and unity that define this community.

From conversations at doorsteps to meetings in our downtown, he’s seen the best of Summit—neighbors who care deeply, businesses that invest locally, and a city that always strives to do better.

This election isn’t just about today—it’s about shaping the next decade of Summit’s future. Together, we can keep our city strong, vibrant, and united.
