Delia Hamlet is a decorated United States Army veteran, business owner, and dedicated community volunteer who has proudly called Summit home for over a decade. All three of her children attend the Summit Public School system.
Her civic commitment runs deep. Delia currently serves as the President Pro Tempore of the Common Council and is a member of the Board of School Estimate. She also serves on the Board of Bridges and is actively engaged in efforts to end homelessness in Summit. Delia is a member of the Summit Planning Board and the Mount Laurel Committee, where she is working on the city’s Housing Element and Fair Share Plan, as well as Summit’s role in the State Cross Acceptance process. She also represents Summit at the Joint Meeting of Union and Essex Counties. Over the years, she has served on several Council committees, including Community Programs and Parking, Parking Services Agency, Finance, Administration, and Capital Projects. Delia has also served as a board member of Central Presbyterian Nursery School and has volunteered with the Lincoln-Hubbard PTO.
As a student at the University of Pittsburgh, Delia was a cadet in the Reserve Officers’ Training Corps. Upon graduation, she was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Transportation Corps and stationed at Fort Eustis, Virginia. Following a brief training deployment to Korea, she volunteered for overseas duty and deployed to Camp Doha, Kuwait, in 2001. During the tragic events of September 11th and throughout Operation Enduring Freedom, Delia was responsible for the health, safety, and welfare of two Logistical Support Vessels in theater. She later served as Executive Officer of the 155th Transportation Company and was appointed Aide-de-Camp to a General Officer at the Defense Distribution Center.
Her military awards include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Army Service Ribbon, and Parachutist Badge.
Delia brings a unique blend of experience in security, business, and public service to the City of Summit. She is a strong advocate for common-sense solutions that address the real needs of our community.
In 2020, during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, Delia led a fundraising effort that raised over $200,000 for employees of Canoe Brook Country Club facing financial hardship.
