In a new Letter to the Editor published by TAPinto Summit, Council candidate and former Councilwoman Delia Hamlet lays out where she stands heading into November: Summit’s local elections should be decided on Summit issues, not national politics.
Hamlet, who is running for Summit NJ Common Council alongside Jamel Boyer, organizes her message around three commitments. First, public safety: Summit continues to operate a 24/7 police department and has expanded a number of public-safety initiatives, work she wants to protect and build on. Second, responsible development: she points to the City’s July 2023 move to terminate its conditional redeveloper designation of L&M and Toll Brothers for Broad Street West, and the roughly 90-acre Bristol Myers Squibb site, as places where she wants residents heard before decisions are shaped, not after. Third, hands-on constituent service, the kind she says defined her first term meeting residents directly in their homes and neighborhoods.
Her message comes down to four words: “Not On My Watch.”
“I am an independent thinker. I am a veteran, a mother, and a neighbor,” Hamlet writes. “I will always put Summit ahead of politics.”
